On the Cantorial Feature, two very rare selections by the great Cantor David Kusevitzky (1911-1985). The youngest of the four Kusevitzky brothers he was born in Poland and in 1936 he became Cantor of the famed Hendon Synagogue in London. He arrived in the United States in 1948 and became Cantor of Temple Emanu-El in Brooklyn, a post he held until his death. His was a powerful lyric tenor which thrilled audiences who had the good fortune to hear him live or on his many recordings. Here we present two recordings which were made for Columbia records in 1948, shortly after his arrival in the United States. He is accompanied by the choir of his shul and its legendary director Herman Zalis (1885-1969).
