Hi Everybody!! One of our favorite shows of the whole year is up on the website for your enjoyment!! It is our special program for the 4th of July, as we pay tribute to this wonderful country in which we are all so fortunate to live!! What we have are some great musical selections and we open up the treasure chest of priceless and rare excerpts of American and Jewish radio programs of years past and we get to hear living Jewish history!! Also Ben has some very fine and appropriate selections from his side of the table. All of it together makes for some great listening!! 3. G-d Bless America. This is from the “Kate Smith Hour” broadcast on the CBS radio network on November 11, 1938. Kate Smith introduces the song and this is the first time this famous song was ever sung on the air.
4. The Lux Radio Theater, CBS network, June 2, 1947. Al Jolson reprises his famous role from the 1927 film. This is the climactic scene from the show. Jolson sings “Kol Nidre”.
5. The American Jewish Hour, WHN, New York, 1939. Opening of the show and Dave Tarras plays “The Bridegroom Special”.
6. Excerpt from the 1976 album celebrating the Jewish American experience at the Bicentennial. Several vintage clips are heard: A 1936 news broadcast in Yiddish on WEVD, New York, a commercial for Schapiro’s Wine, a patriotic Yiddish Song “Ich Dank Dir G-tt Far America”, a clip of a 1922 recording of “V’Chol Ma’minim” by Cantor Zavel Kwartin.
7. “Yiddish Swing Program”, WHN, New York, 1940. Opening signature and a patriotic song in English and Yiddish called “Faithful To America” sung by Alan Chester. Sponsored by Edelstein’s Tuxedo Brand Cheese.
8. “Yiddish Swing Program”, WHN, New York, 1941. Opening signature and another patriotic song called “United We Stand” sung by Jan Bart and the Barry Sisters. Sponsored by Manischewitz matzo.
9. “Bei Tateh Mama’s Tish”, WEVD, New York, 1939. Opening signature and commercial in Yiddish for Manischewitz matzo.
10. “The American Jewish Cavalcade Of Stars”, WABC, New York, 1937. Molly Picon, Seymour Rechtzeit and Alan Phillips sing “My America’s Free”.
11. Opening of a Cantorial program on WEVD, New York, 1950 with Cantor Moishe Oysher. Sponsored by Instant Maxwell House Coffee.
12. “The Eternal Light”, NBC radio network. Opening of a 1952 broadcast, “His Execellency Of Vilna”.
13. Two Yiddish radio commercials from 1952. One for Milady’s frozen food products and Seymour Rechtzeit sings for Ajax cleanser.
14. Opening of “Forget Me Not”, one of a number of syndicated Yiddish soap operas which were recorded on 16″ transcription discs and distributed to Jewish programs around the country in the early 1950’s.
15. Manischewitz goes mainstream! Here is a 1959 commercial for Manischewitz wines tucked between the last two American dramatic radio programs “Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar” and “Suspense”, as they sought a wider American audience.

20. “The Jewish Radio Hour, WTOW, Baltimore, hosted by Rabbi Jacob Max. Opening of a 1985 broadcast.
21. Closing of “Yiddish Swing” from a 1945 broadcast. WHN, New York.
