Hi everybody!  Hope you had a very nice Passover holiday. The special programming rolls on here on Washington Jewish Radio. The show of April 15 is up on the web. It is our special program in commemoration of Yom HaShoah, the Holocaust Rememberance Day. Many rare recordings, even some by those who perished in the Holocaust. Special Av Horachamim-Cantor Moishe Oysher-1945. This is taken from a live radio broadcast of a Yizkor commemoration held in Madison Square Garden shortly after the end of the war. An extremely rare recording.

Partizaner Lied (Song Of The Partisans)-Jan Peerce-1964


Warsaw Lament-Cantor Moshe Ganchoff-1946. Another live radio broadcast of a Yizkor commemoration held in the New York area right after the war.

The Struma (Who Will Answer)-Avi Kuntsler-1984

Nessun Dorma-Sung by the famous singer Joseph Schmidt (born Davideny, Rumania 1904. Died at the internment camp at Gyrenbad, Switzerland 1942). One of the most famous singers in Europe in the 1930’s he was known as the “German Caruso”. Recorded in Berlin July 7, 1934.

Keil Moleh Rachamim-Cantor Sholom Katz-This is the original rare recording made in Czechoslovakia in 1946. Cantor Katz was known around the world for this recording and it won the “Prix Du Disque” prize given in Paris in 1950. A survivor of the Holocaust, Cantor Katz passed away in 1982.

Zmiros L’Shabbos-Cantor Israel Bakon (born Czernowitz, Poland 1910-murdered at the extermination camp of Belzec in 1943). This recording made in Poland in 1939.

Psalm 55-Cantor Gershon Sirota (born Podolia Guberne 1874-died in the Warsaw Ghetto 1943). One of the most famous Cantors of all time. Fondly remembered today by all lovers of fine music. This recording made in Poland in 1927.
