On the Cantorial Feature, two very nice selections by the late Cantor Samuel Taube (1915-2008). Born in Poland, he was serving in Paris when World War II began. In 1943, he was deported to Auschwitz, where he survived by singing for his German captors until his liberation in 1945. He went to London where he served several congregations and then in 1958, he came here to Washington, DC to become the Cantor of the Beth Sholom Congregation. He remained in Washington until 1963, when he went to Montreal where he served until 1975. He then made aliyah and opened a school for training Cantors in Rehovot. He passed away in 2008. On the Cantorial feature, we hear two selections from a 1959 album which he recorded for the Famous company during his tenure in Washington.
