On the Cantorial feature, two very nice selections by Bas Sheva. Bas Sheva was born Bernice Kanevsky in Philadelphia in 1925. Her father was a well known Cantor and she was expert in singing Cantorial music, mainly from the concert stage. In that era, women cantors were unknown, even in the conservative and reform movements. She appeared in a couple of films and in 1953 she recorded an album of Cantorial selections for Capitol records with Art Mooney and his orchestra which was very well received. Unfortunately, she was struck down at a very untimely age when in 1960 she passed away of an allergic reaction at the age of only 34 years old! She was the possessor of a powerful alto voice and great and unique style.
