Hi Everybody!! Now that Tisha B’Av and the Three Weeks are behind us, we move forward into a much happier time of the year. And here on Washington Jewish Radio, we begin these weeks of consolation with our special program for the Shabbos Nachamu weekend. We have lots of fine happy and uplifting music for you to enjoy and be inspired by. Also on this program we pay tribute to two figures of Jewish music who passed away recently. First, the internationally renowned star of stage, screen, recordings and television, the late Theodore Bikel and also the late Rabbi Seymour Rockoff, whose Chassidic interpretations and comedy selections, particularly on the “Rechnitzer Rejects” albums of the 1980’s were especially popular. On the Cantorial Feature, two very nice selections from a very fine Cantor of the preceding generation, Cantor Henoch Borenstein (1902-1996). Born in Poland in 1902, he was a child soloist in Warsaw, with the famed Cantor Gershon Sirota (1874-1943). Arriving the United States as a teenager, he quickly became established with various positions. He davvened for many decades in Philadelphia and he passed away in 1996. These two recordings are from the early and later days of his career.

1. B’Chochmoh Posayach Sheorim-Recorded for Stinson in New York in 1937.

2. Yehi Rotzon (New Moon Blessing)-Recorded for Greater Recording in New York in 1971. Cantor Borenstein is accompanied on this recording by the Choir and Orchestra of Abraham Nadel (1926-1985), one of the foremost Jewish choral conductors of the preceding generation.
