On the Cantorial feature, two very nice selections by a woman who was well-known for her singing of Cantorial music, Bas Sheva. Bas Sheva was the stage name of Bernice Kanevsky. Born in Philadelphia in 1925, she came from a family of singers and Cantors. She appeared regularly in the Catskill mountain resorts and made several motion picture appearances, especially in the film “Catskill Honeymoon”, released in 1950. In 1953, she recorded her most famous album, “Soul Of A People” for Capitol Records, an entire album of Cantorial selections. In 1960, she died suddenly at the age of only 34 when she suffered an allergic reaction to penicillin. On the today’s Cantorial feature two very nice selections from the Capitol album:
