On the Cantorial Feature, two very nice selections by the legendary Cantor Moshe Koussevitzky, who was the most famous chazzan of the preceding generation. Born in Smorgon in the Ukraine in 1899, he became the Chazzan of the famous Tlomatzka Street shul in Warsaw in 1928 where he served with great distinction until the outbreak of World War II in 1939. Escaping deep into Russia he survived the war and in 1947 came to the United States. He was the chazzan of Congregation Beth El of Boro Park in Brooklyn until his death in 1966. He recorded extensively and on today’s Cantorial Feature, two selections from the RCA Victor series which he recorded between 1947 and 1952. The orchestras were conducted by the late Warner Bass on both selections.
