On the Cantorial Feature, we have two very nice selections by a fine Cantor who survived the Holocaust and served in the New York area for 50 years, Cantor Abraham Brun. Born in Poland in 1909, he was serving in Lodz at the outbreak of the war and he was incarcerated first in the Lodz ghetto and later in Auschwitz and other camps before being liberated by the US Army in 1945. In 1948 he came to America to become chazzan of Temple Beth El of Long Beach, New York. There he served with great distinction for 50 years until his passing in 1998. On this Cantorial feature we have two selections from a 1960 album he recorded for Folkways Records. They are classic presentations of Polish chazzanus as it existed before the Holocaust. Enjoy them!
